Born on the 3rd of July 1980 in Luxembourg Jeff Herr began his musical studies in 1991 in the "Conservatoire de Luxembourg", with lessons of Solfege, Classical Percussion, Drums, Latin Percussion, Harmony and Piano. He stayed until 2001, having graduated in Solfege (Premier Prix) and Drums (Premier Prix and Prix Supérieur). From 2001 to 2005, he was a student at the Conservatorium Maastricht, department Jazz and Pop Music, with Drums as main subject. Besides that he also followed pedagogic and methodic classes to obtain a music teacher diploma for Drum set. He graduated successfully in 2005.
Jeff has studied with Guy Frisch, Al Ginter, Rainer Kind, Ron Van Stratum and Arnoud Gerritse and followed master classes with Nippy Noya, Changuito, Phil Maturano and many more…
Besides his musical studies, Jeff has played in many bands from early age on: With 12 he started in his first band, a rock cover band, which unfortunately never had the honor to perform on a live gig. Before moving to his next band, VIII Ball, a Crossover group, he performed in several percussion ensembles as well as in a "Fanfare" Orchestra. Between 1995 and 1996, VIII Ball had a few live gigs, but the band split after the singer had left the country to live in the United States.
From 1998 until 2000 he played with Tongue XII, another Hardcore-Rap band. In 2000 they recorded a CD in Frankfurt which was never released because the band, again, split. By that time, Jeff decided to become a professional musician and so he started to play in a lot of different bands as a hired sideman, in the aim of getting more experience (Still at Large, Indian Summer, Baby Chams, Peenuts, Remo and Band, Leana Sealy Quintet …). In 2000 he joined the Rock Band "Tweed" and appeared with them on 2 CDs and 1 Compilation. They stayed together until 2003. Meanwhile Jeff got more interested into Jazz and Funk music.
Since 2001, he performed in a lot of Jazz settings in the Benelux with musicians as Pascal Schumacher, Marc Demuth, David Laborier, Jitz Jeitz, Greg Lamy, Ernie Hammes, Pascal Mohy, Jef Neve, Christophe Devischer or Joachim Badenhorst and players from the Maastricht-Limburg region. Jeff is also a co-founder from the spectacular percussion and DJ group "Stroke X". In 2003 he joined the Funk-Soul Cover band "Funx Force Five", an upcoming show-band from Aachen, Germany, as well as the Hip-Hop group "The Gentles", Luxembourg's breakthrough artists from 2003. In the same year he decided to form his own band, the Jeff Herr Corporation, with musicians that he had met in Maastricht: Carlo Nardozza, Trumpet; Joonas Lorentz, Fender Rhodes and Synthesizers; Tom Van Acker, Basses.
In July 2004 the band signed a record deal with the Waltzing-Parke Records (WPR) Label and recorded their 1st CD which was officially released in January 2005. Since then the band has performed in many different countries, among them the Benelux, France, Germany, Romania... In 2006, he joined the Soul/R'n'B Band Funky P, who hit the charts in summer 2006 with their debute single "Smile Baby". |
